WHY DO I MAKE THEATRE?

My vision as a creative is to always create work that represents universal themes that anyone can understand in an authentic, pure format. I consider theatre and music among the most potent devices for generating conversation and evoking reactions. No matter anyone’s background, ideals like the pursuit of happiness, change, and friendship are discussions anyone can share; which reminds us that we are not so different.
I am driven to unorthodox presentations of performance in theatre. Having studied Brecht for close to a decade, I firmly believe theatre can not only be entertaining, but a method for demonstrating universal ideas. By doing this, I create theatre that is inclusive, progressive, and inspiring. I want audiences to leave my work feeling inspired to show an extra amount of compassion toward other people.
I create theatre that conveys universal themes to remind us that we are all human.

ABOUT JAY

Jay Puranik was born in Welwyn Garden City to mixed descent. He attended Solent University from 2021, training in their Spotlight-recognised Musical Theatre BA (Hons) course.

Jay has been very productive during his time at University. In first year, he became voluntarily involved in Level 5's production of Legally Blonde, starring as Emmett. A year later, he would portray Orin Scrivello D.D.S. in Little Shop of Horrors, an experience he found incredibly valuable for his growth. This May, Jay is set to play Jon in Tick... Tick... BOOM! for his final project at the MAST Mayflower Studios; where he is also director and lead designer.

Jay is known qualatively for his uniquely loud vocal projection. Moreover, he especially enjoys playing comedic roles, singing rock songs and musicals, and loves contemporary dance.

He is also an avid animal lover, and is aspiring to finally have his first cat in the next few years.
