Synopsis

With music by the late Jonathan Larson, and adapted by David Auburn, Tick, Tick… BOOM! is a semi-autobiographical depiction of a section of Larson’s life.
Beginning just one week before Jon’s 30th birthday, he is living paycheck to paycheck, pouring all his resources into his new musical, SUPERBIA. The workshop is on Thursday and aims to announce himself to the musical theatre world with a successful workshop performance.
Things however become complicated in his personal life. Michael, his best friend, has given up acting for a successful life in entrepreneurship. Susan, his girlfriend, wants to move away from New York City, and live a quiet life in Cape Cod. With his friends slowly drifting away as he pursues success as a composer, Jon must choose: compromise or persevere?

Role

Jonathan Larson / Director and Graphic Designer

My last hurrah at uni, one of my favourite musicals: Tick, Tick... BOOM!... Wow, goosebumps.

I have incredible admiration for Jonathan Larson, and creating this work has only furthered my respect for him. Portraying him was deeply moving: Larson has always believed in standing for something bigger than himself, time and time again.

It is both humbling and rewarding to portray his likeliness, and Tick Tick... BOOM!'s focus on universal ideas, has really reinvented my ideas and perceptions of the impact of theatre.

All the lessons I had learned from my last two major shows came to the fore as I thoroughly enjoyed each and every moment. Saying goodbye to University was difficult, but this was the best way I could've gone out. I would love to revisit this musical in the future.

As for a side note, I did the deisgn for this shows promo materials, and I was happy to see a step up in quality.
